Bone spurs are also termed as osteophytes. It is the extra growth of your bone along the edges of the bone. According to Ayurveda, bone spur is caused due to vitiation of vata dosha. Hence, avoid all vata aggravating factors like excessive walking in barefoot, travelling, awakening at night times, consuming very dry foods always, mental worry and stress.
Investigation: X-Ray is done to diagnose a calcaneal spur, and to differentiate a calcium deposition from abnormal bone growth.
Medication: If the growth is extreme, Ayurvedic Tablet Therapy is begun immediately. After 4 months, X-Ray results are compared to see If the spur has dissolved. Patient is advised to wear soft footwear at all times during the treatment period. Patients are also advised against standing in one place for more than 30 minutes.
Additionally, Gram flour (besan), brinjals, curs and groundnut are to be avoided during the treatment.
How to avoid:
- Wear footwear with proper insoles.
- Maintain your BMI.
- Always wear proper fitting footwear.
